Thank You Yuma!

It has been my honor to represent the great and amazing people of the City of Yuma on local to international issues over the last 12 years as your Mayor. I believe that we have seen great growth and change during my term, however there is more to do. Your support and vote will allow me to continue to advance these efforts.

About The Mayor

Mayor Douglas J. Nicholls is currently serving his third term as 27th Mayor of the City of Yuma and is running for re-election. He is committed to leading Yuma with the vision that high-quality communities provide opportunities for success through a strong economy, quality education and jobs, and a robust quality of life.

He aims to bring Yuma to the forefront of national and global opportunities, such as by founding and chairing 4FrontED, through which area mayors collaborate to attract businesses, strengthen ties with cross-border partners, improve the infrastructure of the border region, and streamline communication within four states and two nations to have one unified voice.

A second effort is Mayor Nicholls' goal for superior higher education in Yuma, led through his Elevate Southwest initiative. It aims to construct a centralized hub where state universities and regional higher education institutes can offer full baccalaureate degree programs in Yuma. Key partnerships are in place with local industries—including the $4 billion agriculture industry—to provide academic, research and workforce opportunities.

Background

After graduating with a civil engineering degree from Arizona State University, Mayor Nicholls completed post-baccalaureate studies in Transportation Engineering (also at ASU). He and his wife, Danette, returned home to Yuma and founded Core Engineering Group, PLLC.

Leadership Roles

Mayor Nicholls serves on the Board of Directors for Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, the Governor's Arizona Space Commission and the Executive Committee of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.

I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR VOTE!

JOB CREATION:

I believe job creation can only be accomplished by the private sector, however the City can foster an environment encouraging job creation. Over the last 8 years, I have worked hard to create this environment.

TAXATION:

I believe the level of services the voters expect from the City government directly impacts the tax revenue needed to fund those programs. The current tax structure of the City is in balance and future budgets need to maintain low tax levels and continue to prevent tax increases.

PUBLIC SAFETY:

I believe the first priority of City government is to provide a safe community through adequately equipped and staffed police and fire departments. This priority is a big factor in the quality of life we enjoy in Yuma that includes other factors like parks and recreation facilities and activities, quality water and sewer systems, among many others.

CIVIC PRIDE:

I believe that civic pride cannot be manufactured but only come from true engagement of the community. With this philosophy, I have spearheaded campaigns such as United For Yuma, Day of Unity, Committee Creations, 4FrontED, and others to engage the Yuma community and the greater Yuma area.
